How to get to Arashiyama area from Fushimi-Inari Shrine ?

The recommended way to Arashiyama area from Fushimi-Inari Shrine is “by JR (Nara line + Sagano line)”.
There is no direct bus service available between them.

From Fushimi-Inari Shrine to Arashiyama, firstly please head for JR line station.

The name of the JR station is Inari, located just a few minutes’ walk from the main gate of Fushimi Inari Shrine.
So, it is very convenient.

On the JR line, the nearest station for Arashiyama area is Saga-Arashiyama.

It actually takes about 30 (sometimes 40) minutes in total from Inari Sta. to Arashiyama Sta. due to train schedule.

The fare is ¥240 for an adult.

You need to change trains at Kyoto station, from Nara line to Sagano line. 

The followings are the details.

2. By JR line for Arashiyama area

2-1 By JR (Nara line) : From Inari Sta. to Kyoto Sta.

Firstly, I’ll show you the way to Kyoto station from Inari station by JR Nara line.

1. Take any Trains bound for Kyoto Station

Local and rapid type of trains are available on JR Nara line.

But normaly, only local trains stop Inari station.
(On peak season, rapid train may also stop.)

Bcause Kyoto station is the last stop of this line, please take any type of trains bound for Kyoto Station.

The trains depart from track No.1, located opposite side of ticket gate.

2. Change Trains at Kyoto Station

In 5 minutes by local trains, trains arrive at Kyoto station.

Kyoto station is the last stop, so it’s easy when get off.

2-2  How to Transfer at Kyoto Station (From Nara line to Sagano line)

Trains from Fushimi Inari shrine arrive at Kyoto station track No.8, 9 or 10 (Nara line).

Then, trains for Arashiyama depart from track No.31, 32 or 33 (Sagano line).

JR Kyoto station is huge, so it takes at least 5 minute to change trains form Nara line to Sagano line.

The followings show the recommended way to transfer.

1. After getting off, Head for the Overpass ahead.

When you get off trains, please walk to forward direction, and go up stairs to an overpass.

2. Walk on the Overpass

Keep walking on the overpass untill the end.

At the end of the overpass, turn left and go downstairs.

3. Following the Sign, Walk Straight.

After getting down from the overpass, walking to the forward, following the sign of Sagano line.

Please keep walking along the passwage, then you come to the platform of JR Sagano line at the end.

Please check the track No. by an electric noticeboard, and ride any early train except for limited express.

2-3  By JR (Sagano line) : From Kyoto Sta. to Saga-Arashiyama Sta.

Local and Rapid type trains are available on the JR Sagano line.

Both types of trains stop the nearest station to Arashiyama area, named Saga-Arashiyama station.

1. Take Any Trains on JR Sagano line

For Arashiyama, take any trains departing from track No.31, 32 or 33 except for limited express.
The trains are usually operated about 5 times per hour.

2. Get off at Saga-Arashiyama Sta.

In 17 minutes’ ride, trains arrive at Saga-Arashiyama station.

The 7th stop by local train, 3rd stop by rapid train from Kyoto station.

3. Head for the South Gate for the Center of Arashiyama area.

After getting out of the ticket gate, if you firstly visit Bamboo Forest, Togetsukyo Bridge or trolley train, please head for the south gate.

If you visit Daikakuji temple, Jojakkoji temple or Adashinono Nenbutsuji temple, please head for the north gate.

This JR Saga-Arashiyama station is located a little bit away from the center of Arashiyama.
It takes 12 minutes’ walk to Togetsukyo Bridge, a symbol of Arashiyama area.
