Eikado Temple is famed for very beautiful trees and scenery.
You can enjoy very beautiful trees of fresh green and autumn leaves in the temple.
From a spot in the temple, you can overlook the city of Kyoto.
Within walking distance, you can also visit Nanzenji temple, Ginkakuji temple (silver pavilion) through Philosopher’s Walk, Heian Jingu Shrine or Kyoto City Zoo.

2. By Kyoto City Subway
If you take Kyoto City Subway for Eikando temple, it will save time to move and beat the traffic jam.
It takes 17 minutes from Kyoto station to the nearest station, Keage.
From Keage station, it takes about 10 minutes’ walk to Eikando Temple.
There is Nanzenji Temple on the way, so that you can visit there, too.
The fare is ¥260.
The followings are the detail.
2-1 From Kyoto Station to Keage Station via Karasuma-Oike
At Kyoto station, take Subway Karasuma line train (departing from track 2) bound for Kokusai-kaikan.
In 5 miutes, the train arrive at Karasuma-Oike station (the third station from Kyoto station), so, please get off.
At the Karasuma-Oike station, transfer to Subway Tozai line train.
Please wait at track 2 on the Tozai line platfrom.
The destinations of the train are Rokujizo or Biwako-Hamaotus, but all trains departing from track 2 go to Keage station.
In 7 minutes, the train arrive at Keage station (the fourth station from Karasuma-Oike station), so plese get off.
2-2 The Way to Eikando Temple from Keage Station
From Keage station, it takes about 10 minutes’ walk to Eikando temple.
I’ll show you one of the shorter ways from Keage station.
1. Get out of the Exit 1 at Keage Station
2. Walk down along the Street
3. Walk through the tunnel on your right, and Follow the street.
4. Before the gate, turn right.
5. Walk along the Nanzenji temple, Turn Right.
6. Follow the street.
7. Eikando Temple on your Right !

3. By Bus
If you plan to visit Eikando temple from Kyoto station by bus, Kyoto City Bus No.5 is available. If weekends & holidays, bus No.105 (Rakuraku-Line) is also available.
Bus No.5 has 2 routes for Eikando temple (via Gojo street and via Shijo street), but both routes are O.K..
By Bus No.5 , please get off at Nanzenji Eikando-michi bus stop (at least 36 min ride). From the bus stop, you come to Eikando temple in 4 minutes’ walk to the east. If weekends & holidays, by bus No.105 , please get off at Miyanomaecho bus stop (at least 39 min ride), and walk to the south in 4 minutes.
The fares are ¥230 per ride.

A1 for Kyoto City Bus No.5 (include via Gojo-street No.5) & No.105 if weekends & holidays.
Actually No.5 often tend to be crowded, but comes almost every 7 or 8 minutes.
So try wating for next bus if you can not ride.
No.105 (Rakuraku-Line) is operated every 30 minutes during the daytime on weekends & holidays.
3-2 Bus Stops Information near Eikando Temple (Nanzenji Eikando-michi)
I’ll show you the way to Eikando temple from Nanzenji Eikando-michi bus stop.
Only Bus No.5 including “ via Gojo-street No.5 ” stops there.
1. After Getting off, Cross the Crosswalk ahead.
2. Go Straight untill the End.
3. Then Eikando Temple is just in front of you
4. In case of Bus No.105, Miyanomaecho bus stop to Eikando Temple
In case of bus No.105 , please go straight to the backwards when you get off at Miyanomaecho bus stop. In a few minutes, you come to Eikando temple on your left!

it takes much more time on peak season∗ because of heavy traffic jam.
∗ Peak season : cherry blossam (the end of March to the beginning of April), autumn leaves (November) and consecutive holidays in Japan (the end of April to the beginning of May)
Actually, Bus No.5 often tends to be crowded by locals and visitors, so that, to Eikando temple on peak season, “By Subway” is better.
