Among them, Yumeyakata and Wargo are especially inexpensive, stylish and visitor-friendly shops.
(of course men’s and kid’s are O.K.)

2. Yumeyakata

2-1 Shop Location & Information

 Yumeyakata  (Gojo shop) is located near Kyoto City Subway Karasuma line Gojo station.

Gojo station is one stop north from JR Kyoto station by subway.

The way to Yumeyakata Gojo shop

From the Exit No.1 of Gojo station, about 3 minutes’ walk to the east along the road, then the shop is on your left. (you can check the detailed location of the shop by clicking the image below)

 Yumeyakata  (Gojo shop) is very visitor-friendly rental shop.

Multilingual interpreters are available (English, French, Spanish, Thai, Indonesian, Korean and Chinese).
So, you don’t warry about conversation any more. (the website is also multilingual)

The shop Keeps your luggage for free even if your luggage is large such as suitcases.

The shop also has its’ own Tourist Information, so you can ask any questions about sightseeing after dressing Kimono. It is very convenient !

The shop opens 10;00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (please enter by 4 p.m., and return by 5:30 p.m.)

The optional services are, for example,

  •  Hairstyling  : ¥1650 (reservatin required)

  •  Kimono’s coat (Haori) for winter  : ¥550

Please note that if you come to Kyoto during summer, Yukata, casual type of Kimono for the summer season, is recommended instead of usual Kimono. So, please book Yukata Rental Plan (also ¥3080 if book in advnce)

If you make a reservation on the web, the rental price is discounted from ¥3,850 to ¥3080 (casual plan recommended for female students) or ¥5280 to ¥4180 (standard plan) including tax.
You can make a reservation even on the day !

2-2 How to book on the “Yumeyakata” website

2. Select your language.

At the “Yumeyakata” website, firstly select your language (in the upper right corner of the site), and change the site into your language.

(English, French, Spanish, Thai, Indonesian, Korean and Chinese lunguages are available)

3. Select your plan.

Select your plan (Kimono Rental Plan, Couple Rental Plan and so on).

If you are a group or a family or you don’t know which plan is applied, select Kimono Rental Plan.
You can reserve a whole member of your family or group including children, and any discounts are automatically applied !

4. Check the rental plan, and Click “Book Now” button.

Please read and check your plan, then, click “Book Now” button.

5. enter the date, plan, the number of people & optional services

At the reservation page, decide the date, check your plan, enter the number of people and choose optional services if you want.

You are required to fill “Customer’s Information” and “payment method”. You can choose ”Pay in store” or ”Prepay in credit card” (Visa MasterCard, JCB, AMEX and DINERS are accepted), and confirm.

 «Cancellation» 

Basically, it won’t cost any cancellation charge. But, if you cancell the early morning reservation between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on the day, extra charg ¥1,000 is needed.

So, please try to contact them at least one day before your reservation date.

3. Wargo

3-1 Shop Locations & Information

If you plan to visit Gion or Kiyomizu-dera Temple, or if you start sightseeing from Kyoto station, Wargo is very convenient rental shop for you.

Normally, there are the following 5 shops in Kyoto, but now, only 2 shops are open.

Only Kyoto Tower shop and Gion-Nishiki shop are now open.

Kyoto Tower shop :
on the 2nd floor of Kyoto Tower building, in front (the north side) of  JR Kyoto station

Arashiyama Ekimae shop : Closed
1 minute walk
to the south from the south gate of JR Saga-Arashiyama station

Arashiyama Togetsukyo shop : closed
3 minutes walk
to northeast from Randen (Keifuku Railway) Arashiyama station

Gion-Nishiki shop(Gion-shijo shop has relocated) :
 7 minute walk from Subway Shijo station, 5 minute walk from Hankyu Railway Karasuma station, to the north from the Exit No.13 of these underground train station.

Kiyomizuzaka shop : Closed
   5 minutes walk from Kyoto City Bus Gojozaka bus stop

 Wargo  shops are located near stations or famous spots, so it is very convenient to go sightseeing after dressing a Kimono !

 Wargo  is also visitor-friendly rental shop.

Interpreters are not available, but you can easily understand by multilingual written explanations. In addition, you can make a reservation on Wargo multilingual website (not only English but also French, Korean, Thai, Indonesia, Malay, Vietnamese, Hindi and Russian available). So, you don’t warry about your understanding so much.

The Wargo shops keeps your personal belongings for free if you rent a Kimono. (¥500 for large luggage such as a suitcase)

Shops open 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., please return by 30 minutes before closing time.

The optional services are, for example,

  •  Hairstyling∗  : ¥1100  ∗free simple hairstyling available. 

  •  Studio Photo Shoot∗  : ¥1000 ← 5 photos in data file for smartphone ∗may be temporarily suspended due to coronavirus

  •  Standard Kimono’s coat (Haori) for winter  : ¥550

Please note that if you come to Kyoto during summer (July and August), Yukata, casual type of Kimono for the summer season, is available. So, please book Sutandard Yukata Plan (also ¥3300 if book in advance).

3-2 How to book on the “Wargo” website

At first, click the image, and visit the “Wargo” website.

2. Select your Language

At the Wargo website, firstly select your language (in the upper right corner of the site), and change the site into your lunguage.

3. Click “Plans • Prices” button

Next, click “Plans • Prices” button (in the upper left corner of the site)

For smartphone, “Plans • Prices” button is located under the image of a woman dressed in a Kimono.

4. For Women, make sure of “Standard Kimono Plan”, and reserve.

For women, make sure of “Standard Kimono Plan”, enter the number of guests, and click “Reservation” button. (If you wish to apply for other plans at the same time, such as men or children, please enter the number of people for each plan first, and then, press the reservation button for any one place finally.)

For men, select “Kimono Plan for men” listed in the middle of the site.

For couples, select “Couples Standard Kimono Plan”.

If you are couple(s), this plan is the most reasonable !
The price is ¥5,500 for a couple.

For children, select “Kimono Plan for Children”.

This plan is for about the age of 3 to 10 years old.

At the following reservation page…,
choose Kyoto area , and Kyoto Tower shop , and decide the date and the time you would like, and select optional services if you want.

After that, you are required to fill Customer Information . (you don’t need to fill “Kana” (Japanese letter) and “Prefecture”.)

Then, please confirm your reservation contents, and proceed to payment. You can choose  web payment  (credit card only : VISA, Master Card, JCB, American Express, Diners Club International) or  in-store payment .

4. Summary

Wargo shops are recommended for oversea-visitors in terms of the location near major stations.

Yumeyakata shop is recommended in terms of their sufficient spport for oversea-visitors (interpriters & tourist information) in addition to the lowest price.
