How to get to Fushimi-Inari Shrine from Kinakakuji Temple (golden pavilion) ?
You can go by Kyoto City Bus + JR (Sagano line & Nara line).
The recommended way to Fushimi-Inari Shrine from Kinkakuji Temple is “by Kyoto City Bus + JR (Sagano line & Nara line)”.
There is no direct bus service available between them.
The map below is the overview of the routes, time and fare.
From Kinkakuji to Fushimi-Inari Shrine, firstly please head for Kinkakuji-michi bus stop (about 3 minutes’ walk from the gate of Kinkakuji), and take buses for JR Enmachi station.
To JR Enmachi Sta., it takes about 9 minutes by bus.
The map below shows the location of the bus stop and the way from the temple.
On the JR line, the nearest station for Fushimi-Inari Shrine is Inari.
From JR Enmachi Sta. to JR Inari Sta., it takes about 30 minutes including transfer time.
On the way, you need to change trains at Kyoto station, from Sagano line to Nara line.
It actually takes about an hour in total from Kinkakuji Temple to Fushimi Inari Shrine due to train schedule.
The fare is ¥430 for an adult in total.

2. By Bus + JR train for Fushimi Inari Shrine
2-1 By Kyoto City Bus : From Kinkakuji-michi Bus Stop to JR Enmachi Sta.
Buses for JR Enmachi Sta. depart from Kinkakuji-michi bus stop B, located on your right direction at the opposite side of the road (called Nishioji street) if you come from Kinkakuji Temple. (refer to the Map)
Please ride Kyoto City Bus No. 204 or 205 .
They are operated at least 8 times per hour in total.
In 9 minutes’ ride, please get off at Nishinokyo-Enmachi bus stop, the sixth stop from Kinkakuji-michi.
The followings are the details.
1. Ride Buses at Kinkakuji-michi Bus Stop B.
For Fushimi Inari Shrine via JR Enmachi Sta., take Kyoto City Bus No. 204 or 205 .
No.204 and No.205 run the same route for Enmachi station from Kinkakuji-michi.
2. Get off at Nishinokyo-Enmachi Bus Stop.
In 9 minutes, buses arrive at Nishinokyo-Enmachi bus stop.
Bus No.204 and No.205 stop the different locations of the bus stop.
After getting off the bus No.204 , please walk to the backward direction.

After getting off the bus No.205 , please walk to the forward direction.

Bus No. 204 arrive at Nishinokyo-Enmachi bus stop B.
Bus No. 205 arrive at bus stop A.
JR Enmachi station is located southwest direction from those stops.
Firstly, head for the big intersection near the stops, then the station is diagonally across from you.
It takes about 3 minutes from these bus stops.
2-2 By JR (Sagano line) : From Enmachi Sta. to Kyoto Sta.
By JR train to Fushimi Inari Shrine from Enmachi station, firstly take JR Sagano line train for Kyoto station.
At Enmachi station, both local and rapid type trains are available.
The followings are the details.
1. Take Any Trains Departing from Track No.1
Please ride on any type of trains (local or rapid), departing from track No.1 (bound for Kyoto Station) at Enmachi station.
2. Change Trains at Kyoto Station
In 10 minutes by local trains, trains arrive at Kyoto station (by rapid train, taking 7 minutes).
Kyoto station is the last stop, so it’s easy when get off.
2-3 How to Transfer at Kyoto Station (From Sagano line to Nara line)
Trains from Enmachi arrive at Kyoto station track No.31, 32 or 33 (Sagano line).
Then, trains for Fushimi-Inari Shrine depart from track No.8, 9 or 10 (Nara linte).
JR Kyoto station is huge, it takes at least 5 minute to change trains form Sagano line to Nara line.
The followings show the recommended way.
1. After getting off, Head for the Overpass ahead.
When you get off trains, please head for forward direction, following the “Nara line” track sign.
Go up the escalator on your right, then you come to the overpass.
2. Walk on the Overpass
Walk on the overpass until you come to the platform No.8 and 9.
3. Go down stairs or escalator
At the platform No.8 and 9 on the overpass, go down stairs or escalator, then you come to the platform of JR Nara line.
You can also go to track No.10 from there.
2-4 By JR (Nara line) : From Kyoto Sta. to Inari Sta.
Local and Rapid type trains also run on the JR Nara line.
Usually only local trains stop Inari Station. (on peak season such as New Year holidays, cherry blossom or autumn leaves, Rapid train sometimes may stop Inari station)
1. Take local Trains on JR Nara line
For Fushimi-Inari Shrine, take local trains departing from track No.8, 9 or 10.
The local trains are usually operated about 4 times per hour.
2. Get off at Inari Sta., the 2nd station from Kyoto Sta.
In 5 minutes’ ride, trains arrive at Inari station.
At Inari station, please head for the exit located the center of the platform (No.2) where you just get off.

3. The Way to Fushimi-Inari Shrine after Getting Off the Trains
When you get out of the JR Inari Station exit, Fushimi Inari shrine is just in fron of you.
From the station, it takes 3 minutes’ walk to the main shrine (hall), and about 7 minutes’ walk to the most popular place called “Senbon Torii” in Japanese, meaning thousands of Torii gates in English.
For your reference, the followings show the way to the main shrine (hall) of Fushimi Inari Shrine.
1. Head for the Torii Gate on your left.
After getting out of the Inari Station, walk torward the Torii gate on your left.
2. Through the Approach, You Come to the Main Gate of Fushimi-Inari Shrine
Walk on the approach, soon, you come to the main gate of Fushimi Inari Shrine.
