You can go to Kinkakuji Temple by Only Bus, by Subway & Bus or by JR train & Bus from Kyoto station.

although Kinkakuji-mae bus-stop is the nearest, only a few buses stop there.

Main bus-stop for Kinkakuji is Kinkakuji-michi, where most buses arrive and depart.

◊ Near stations to the Temple   actually not near…

(1)  walk 20 min ( 0.9 mile /1.4 km) from Kitano-hakubaicho station (Keifuku Railway, Randen)

(2)  walk 35 min (1.6 mile / 2.6 km) from Enmachi station (JR Sagano line)

(3)  walk 38 min (1.75 mile / 2.8 km) from Kitaoji station (Subway Karasuma line)

Please note that…

Kinkakuji temple close at 5 p.m. every day.
You are recommended to have time at least for an hour to look around.

2. By Subway & Bus

If you take subway & bus for Kinkakuji temple, it will save time to move.

Even on peak season, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the bus stop near the temple.

The fare is ¥490 in total. (Subway ¥260, Bus ¥230)
Subway & Bus One-Day Pass (¥1100) is recommended, if you plan to take subway or bus three times or more on the same day after Kinkakuji temple.

How to go to the Kinkakuji temple by Subway & Bus ?

The following route is recommended.

From Kyoto station, take Subway Karasuma line (depart from track 2) to Kitaoji station.

Then, change to Kyoto City Bus No.204 or 205 for Kinkakuji temple.

Kitaoji station is the best to transfer for Kinkakuji temple, becouse it is easy to transfer and many bus services are available.

2-2 How to Transfer

How to change to Buses from subway Kitaoji station ?

When you arrive at Kitaoji station, please find out and go to “Blue Platform” in the bus terminal through south ticket gate.

1. Get out of the south ticket gate, walk to the right.

2. Keep walking for near Exit 2, just follow the “Blue Platform” sign.

3. In front of Exit 2, turn right.

4. Head for the “Blue Platform” passageway.

5. Then you can see escalator to Blue Platform.

6. Go up the escalator, finally you come to Blue Platform, bus stops for Kinkakuji temple.

Bus No.  205  depart from bus stop “F”.

Bus No.  204  departs from bus stop “G”.

Please be careful that bus No.206 also departing from bus stop “G” doesn’t go to Kinkakuji.

The bus stop that you get off is Kinkakuji-michi.

Both Bus No.204 and 205 stop the same bus stop,
and just 2 minutes’ walk to the gate of the temple.

3. By JR line & Bus

If you take JR train (sagano line) & bus for Kinkakuji temple, it will save time to move.

Even on peak season, it takes about 25 minutes to get to the bus stop near the temple.

The fare is ¥420 in total. (JR train : ¥190, Bus : ¥230)

3-1 Recommended Route : Via Enmachi Station

How to go to the Kinkakuji temple by JR Sagano line train & Bus ?

The following route is recommended.

From Kyoto station, take JR Sagano line (trains depart from platform No.32 or 33) to Enmachi station.

Not only local trains but also rapid trains stop the Enmachi station, so you can ride both type trains.

At the Enmachi station, change to Kyoto City Bus No. 204 ,   205  for Kinkakuji temple.

3-2 How to Transfer

At JR Enmachi station, buses for Kinkakuji temple depart from bus stop “E”.
(bus stop naeme : Nishinokyo-enmachi)

How to change to the buses from JR Enmachi station ?

1. Get out of the ticket gate, turn left and walk to the main street (Marutamachi street).

2. At the main street, walk to the right.

3. Then, you come to the big intersection.

4. At the intersection, turn left and cross the Marutamachi street.

5. Then, you can see the bus stop “E” for Kinkakuji.

Both Bus No.  204  and  205  depart from the bus stop “E”.
